CAMERA THREAT by Bernd Lützeler

Somewhere in the rather dreary spheres of Mumbai’s film industry, stuck between star-cult, superstition and the daily gridlock, Camera Threat explores the ambivalent and sometimes paranoid relationship that this film city has with the moving image as such. Seated on a casting couch, two actors are getting trapped in their impromptu conversations on the unwanted side effects of a world that no longer bothers to tell facts from fiction. An expanded multi-genre film within the constraints of the so-called Masala Formula popularly known from Indian cinema.

Exit is a film about two women who left the ultra-orthodox community. Sara Murray became ultra-orthodox at the age of 17 when she moved to Israel from the US and met her future husband. She lived a strong religious and dedicated life before she couldn´t handle the rigidness of her faith anymore. Leaving the ultra-orthodox world she lost all her children, who she can now only meet 2 hours a week in a daycare centre watched by Rabbinical social workers.

Language: German, Hebrew w/ English subtitles | Genre: Documentary | Year: 2017 | Lenght: 23’30”| Country of Production: Germany & Israel | Producer: Markus Kaatsch, Dana Gal | Scriptwriter: Katharina Woll | Cast: Heidi Moses, Judah Moses, Sarah Murray, Henja Murray | Director of Photography: Daniel Binsted | Sound Designer: Christoph Kozik | Editor: Katharina Woll

Two actors in four roles play and reflect upon the underlying focus of the film, namely: routine. In the process of modernity, people are involved less as individuals in conflicts, and more as representatives of a system. Using improvisation, this mockumentary develops its narrative through role-switching, interviews and an abstracted world in order to humorously point out how nurtured principles and predisposed hierarchies present themselves as self-discipline within individuals.
